Woman Accused Of Hitting Security Guard During Attempted Shoplifting

Krystal Lyde has been charged with robbery

A woman has been charged with robbery after she scuffled with a security guard during an attempted shoplifting on Wednesday, Mentor Police Lt. Ken Zbiegien said.

Krystal Lyde, 23, and her sister Tierra Lyde, 18, both of Cleveland, picked up items from the J.C. Penney department store and tried to fraudulently return them for gift cards, Zbiegien said.

Tierra Lyde tried to return $134 worth of clothing; Krystal Lyde, $240 worth of purses and wallets.

However, the security guard found the Lydes suspicious and tried to stop them. Krystal Lyde then struck the guard in the face and the women ran away, Zbiegien said.

Mentor Police found both the Lydes soon thereafter hiding across the street from the mall. They were both arrested.

Krystal Lyde was charged with robbery. Her younger sister faces a misdemeanor count of theft.
