Lee Brandt faces traffic charges of driving over marked lanes and failing to control his vehicle

The UPS driver on Lake Shore Boulevard is scheduled to appear Wednesday morning in Mentor Municipal Court.

Lee Brandt, 57, of Wickliffe, is charged with two minor misdemeanors – failing to control his vehicle and driving over marked lanes.

If convicted of both charges, he would not face any jail time. At most, the judge could make him pay a $300 fine and restitution for the damage he did.

Mentor police think Brandt fell asleep while driving west on Lake Shore Boulevard June 27. There is no evidence that alcohol was involved.

Brandt crossed over the median and sideswiped a Chevrolet Malibu coming in the other direction, Mentor Police Lt. Tom Powers said.

Brandt's truck continued another 100 feet before it crashed into a house on the 7100 block of Lake Shore. About half of the truck went into the house's living room.

Fortunately, nobody was in the Lake Shore house at the time of the crash. Also, the people in the Malibu only had minor injuries. Paramedics treated them on the scene.

Brandt had some cuts on his face but no life-threatening injuries. He was taken to Hillcrest Hospital, where he was treated and then released.
