Teen Sentenced For Burglary, Pistol-Whipping Elderly Man

Jermail Coleman, 18, will spend 12 years in prison

A man accused of beating an elderly man with a gun will spend the first 12 years of his adult life in prison.

Jermail Coleman, 18, of Cleveland Heights, was sentenced to 12 years in prison Thursday after police say he assaulted an elderly Cleveland Heights man.

Coleman pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated burglary with firearm specifications, one count of felonious assault and one count of grand theft Dec. 12.

Prosecutors say Coleman and his younger brother knocked on the door of an 87-year-old man’s home on Aug. 13, 2012 and asked to use the phone. The man did not let the two in, but later, Coleman and the juvenile broke into the home through a second story window, took a gun from a bedroom, and assaulted the elderly man with it.

The two teens threw the elderly man to the floor and fled, prosecutors say.

Coleman was caught in October after a resident called in a report of gunshots near Woodview Road in Cleveland Heights. Police responded and caught up to Coleman and two teens. According to reports, the three had a handgun and other items that had been reported stolen from cars.

Paula shut your mouth while grown ups are speaking. Do you have a law degree? Are you a Judge? I believe 12 year will suffice. At least they didn't shoot the old man. I'm the first to say that this kid disgusts me, but let's put the real blame where it belongs, his incompetent parents. On top of that this numb skull had the audacity to take his little brother along. That kid who shot his classmates in Chardon is still on trial. Give me a break, talk about an open and shut case. He is a killer and I wish everyone would stop walking on egg shells for this monster. If he was of a darker variety the trial would have been over months ago lol. They drag these things out for money and so the news media has something to report. Everyone and their mother commented about the guy who shot the dog in Forest Hill, how about we keep things in perspective? He was a convicted rapist and never should have been out and about in the first place. The justice system is so corrupt it makes me want to vomit. All the bankers and capitalist who crashed this once great nation into a brick wall are still free as a bird. Oh did I mention they also probably got a bonus last year that is more than you will ever make in your life. Keep drinking the Kool aid Paula, it's good for you.

I am so relieved that the victim (who lives on my street) recovered physically. However, I am so sad that the event will stay with him emotionally. He is a retired military ranking officer. He looked out for America and the perpetrators disrespected him and asaulted him. I am so sorry this happened. He is a good man.

At least he will have a nice long visit with his family members... MLK would be so proud, NOT!

Devall you are a bigot and thus warrant no response. And from what I understand although MLK was a champion of the civil rights movement, he was no angel. Having said that are any of us angels? We are all damaged goods and thus should act accordingly with humbleness. More often than not Hubris precedes the fall. Oh I know Ronald Reagan was an angel lol. We got another Kool aid drinker on our hands.
