Suspects Plead Guilty To Robbing Home Savings Bank In Mentor

Raymond Spears and Theodore Crawford have both pleaded guilty to a pair of bank robberies, including one in Mentor

Two Cleveland men have pleaded guilty to robbing a pair of banks, including the Home Savings Bank in Mentor.

Raymond Spears 22, and Theodore Crawford, 21, and indicted by a federal grand jury on multiple charges.

Spears and Crawford are also accused of robbing the Chase Bank in Lyndhurst four days before the Mentor robbery.

In both robberies, the robber claimed to have a bomb. In Lyndhurst, only one person – thought to be Spears – entered the bank with a fake explosive and demanded money.

In Mentor, two people came into the bank. They each handed the tellers separate notes, claiming to have bombs, and demanded money.

The robbers took more than $3,000 from the bank in Lyndhurst and $6,000 from Mentor bank, according to the indictment.

Crawford pleaded guilty to charges of armed bank robbery, conspiracy to commit bank robbery and aiding and abetting on Jan. 17 in U.S. Federal Judge James Gwin's courtroom.

Crawford is scheduled to be sentence April 14.

Meanwhile, Spears pleaded guilty to two counts of armed bank robbery on Nov. 4. Gwin is scheduled to sentence him Thursday.
