UPDATED: Students Evacuated From Memorial Middle School Due To Bomb Threat

The building has been determined safe

Memorial Middle School was evacuated because of a bomb threat at the school Tuesday afternoon, according to the school district's web site.

The bomb threat was found by a student on a bathroom wall and reported to administrators.

Mentor Police, along with the bomb-sniffing canine, were called and assisted administrators in conducting a sweep of the school.

All after-school events today at Memorial have been cancelled.

The incident is still under investigation by police and the school district.

"The bomb threat made today caused a serious disruption to the learning process and is something that will not be tolerated by Mentor Schools," the school district said in a statement on their web site. "We urge to you encourage your child(ren) to come forward to Memorial’s staff or the police department if they know anything that could help in the investigation."

The district also realizes some students had to leave the school without their coats or other items from their lockers, such as homework.

"Teachers are aware students do not have access to their classroom materials and accommodations will be made," the district said.
