Robber Sentenced To Prison For Robbing Mentor, Lyndhurst Banks

Raymond Spears was sentenced to spend 100 months in prison

Raymond Spears -- -- was sentenced to eight years and four months in federal prison Thursday.

Federal Judge James Gwin also ordered Spears to five years of supervised release after he gets out of prison.

Raymond Spears 22, along with 21-year-old Theodore Crawford, was arrested in August and indicted by a federal grand jury on multiple charges of bank robbery.

Spears and Crawford were accused of robbing the Home Savings Bank in Mentor and the Chase Bank in Lyndhurst.

In both robberies, the robber claimed to have a bomb. In Lyndhurst, only one person – thought to be Spears – entered the bank with a fake explosive and demanded money.

In Mentor, two people came into the bank. They each handed the tellers separate notes, claiming to have bombs, and demanded money.

The robbers took more than $3,000 from the bank in Lyndhurst and $6,000 from Mentor bank, according to the indictment.

Spears pleaded guilty to two counts of armed bank robbery on Nov. 4.

Crawford pleaded guilty to charges of armed bank robbery, conspiracy to commit bank robbery and aiding and abetting on Jan. 17 in U.S. Federal Judge James Gwin's courtroom.

Crawford is scheduled to be sentence April 14.
