Police Still Searching for Man Accused of Stealing TV from HH Gregg

Police posted the man's images on Facebook more than a week ago, but have not received any leads.

Though the Mentor Police Department has been on a recent hot streak of Facebook fans quickly providing leads on people caught stealing on surveillance, one case is giving officers problems.

The detective bureau is still looking for a man who was seen on video stealing a TV from H.H. Gregg, 7900 Plaza Blvd. #100. The department posted a few still images to its Facebook page on July 1, but has not received any strong leads to the man's identity.

The images on the page do not show the man with the television in hand, and the department said those pictures are all detectives have to work with.

It might sound crazy, but Lt. Dan Molnar said a person leaving a big-box store with a large TV isn't all that outlandish.

"It happens more often than you'd think," he said. "If nobody is paying attention or nobody can stop him, it can happen."

A similar incident occurred in December, when a man left the store with a 51-inch TV. Despite better images from that theft, the department did not find the suspect in that case.

Molnar still holds out hope for more recent theft.

"Hopefully somebody can ID him and give us a call," he said.

Anybody with leads should call 440-255-1234, ask for Patrolman Fuduric and reference report No. 13-12867. You can also send the department a private Facebook message that will remain anonymous.
