FBI Releases Names of Mentor Bank Robbery Suspects

The suspects were arrested after a police chase leaving a bank robbery in Twinsburg

Two suspects thought to be involved in more than a dozen area bank robberies, , were arrested after a police chase Monday afternoon.

Dwayne McDaniel, 35, of Maple Heights, and Charles A. Compton, 31, of Euclid, have been charged with one count of federal bank robbery and will likely face more charges.

One of them entered the Key Bank on E. Aurora Road in Twinsburg about 2:12 p.m., FBI Special Agent Scott Wilson said.

The teller handed him money, and the robber went outside where the other suspect was waiting outside in a white car, Wilson said.

The two drove away but a witness followed them and called the police to give a description of their getaway car, Wilson said.

Oakwood Village Police attempted to stop the car, but the suspects went west to I-480. They got off the highway on Lee Road and turned on to Miles Road, until they hit a pole on East 131 Street, north of Broadway Avenue in Garfield Heights.

Oakwood police caught both men, including one who tried to escape on foot.

Both Compton and McDaniel were taken to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment. Compton recovered and was released from the hospital. He will appear in federal court today. McDaniel remains at the hospital, Wilson said.

The duo are also being investigated as suspects for more than a dozen bank robberies in Lake, Cuyahoga and Summit County, Wilson said.
