People Can Still Compete In Mentor Fire Department's AED Scavenger Hunt

Winner of scavenger hunt will get to ride in fire truck

People still have time to compete in .

The winner of the hunt gets to ride in the fire truck and, yes, the winner can sound the sirens.

Automated External Defibrillator (AEDs, for short) are placed throughout the city. They are used to provide a shock to the heart when someone is under cardiac arrest.

AEDs play a critical role in an arrest victim's survival. For every minute that passes without the use of an AED, a victim’s chance of survival drops by 7 to 10 percent. But they are only useful if someone notices them.

Consequently, the has created a contest to make people more aware of the AEDs around them.

Here's how to compete in the scavenger hunt:

  • Make a list of the addresses and general locations of any AEDs that you see while out and about in Mentor.
  • Then submit your list to Mentor Fire Department, AED Scavenger Hunt, 8467 Civic Center Blvd., Mentor, OH 44060. (You can also drop off your list in person or email it to fire@cityofmentor.com.)

The person who finds and lists the locations of the most AEDs in Mentor will win a ride in a fire truck.

The deadline to enter is January 1.
