Octogenarian Pleads Guilty To Latest Shoplifting Charge

An 87-year-old woman pleaded pleaded guilty to a petty theft charge Monday in .

Judge John Trebets found June Kurtz guilty but decided to sentence her later. In the mean time, he ordered a presentence report to be completed before her next court hearing.

As a term of her bond, Kurtz must shop with supervision.

Kurtz, who lives in Chardon, had already been convicted of petty theft four times before in Mentor before.

She was arrested most recently April 5 while at Great Lakes Mall. She was first spotted by security in the Dillard's Department Store, police said.

Security recognized her, in part, because Kurtz isn't allowed to be in Dillard's due to a previous shoplifting conviction.

She left Dillard's and went to Macy's where security guards stopped her after she exited the store.

She had $166 worth of women's shirts that she had taken from Macy's on her and another $259 worth of shirts from Dillard's in her car, polic said.

Kurtz was convicted of petty theft in 1999, 2006, 2010 and 2011. After her 2011 conviction, she was sentenced to 20 days in jail and 160 on house arrest.
