UPDATE: Mentor Senior Center Provides Shelter Until 10 p.m. Thursday

In conjunction with the Lake County Emergency Management Agency and the American Red Cross, the center is offering warmth and a hot meal to county residents without power

Though more than 6,000 FirstEnergy customers in Mentor are still without power, one facility with electricity has opened its doors to residents in Lake County.

The Mentor Senior Center, in conjunction with the Lake County Emergency Management Agency and the American Red Cross, are offering warmth and a hot meal to county residents who do not have electricity as a result of Hurricane Sandy damage.

So far, the center has served just 15 people, but that number is expected to increase this evening, recreation coordinator Nick Standering said.

"Obviously, there are lots of people in the area who have no power," he said. "Best guess, there are 50 to 300 people we could be serving tonight."

Director Renee Ochaya said American Red Cross will be there until at 10 p.m. Thursday.
