Mentor Police and FBI Looking for Bank Robber Who Struck this Morning

Police are investigating the robbery of the Fifth Third Bank on Center Street

Mentor Police and the FBI are investigating a robbery that happened Thursday morning at the on Center Street.

A man entered the bank around 10:45 a.m. and handed the teller a note demanding money. The man did not show a weapon if he had one, Mentor Police Lt. Ken Gunsch said.

The teller gave the robber money. The man then fled to a nearby gas station and drove away. Nobody was hurt.

The robber drove away in a white car, possibly a Buick LeSabre, that had damage to its front end.

The FBI described the robbery suspect as a black man in his 30s. He is about six feet tall with a stocky build. He had long dreadlocks and wore dark clothes and sunglasses.

FBI Special Agent Scott Wilson said this robber fits the description of a suspect in about a dozen area bank robberies.

"It's a possibility that he's a serial bank robber," Wilson said.
