Mentor Police Adds Second K-9 Officer

Bo was paid for entirely by donations from local businesses and community members

Mentor Police Department has added a second K-9 officer, Bo, who will be paired with Officer Bill Mackey.

Bo -- a 1 1/2-year-old German shepherd -- and Mackey had their first official shift together Monday evening after six weeks of training, according to the Mentor Police Department's Facebook page.

The department paid for Bo and his training , including a $5,000 gift from doggy rewards program.

Bo joins Titan, . His partner is Officer Terry Wurgler. The Mentor Municipal Court paid for Titan and his training.

The department had lost its last remaining K-9 in May 2010 .

At the time of Niko's death, Mentor Police Chief Daniel Llewellyn said the department's K-9 program would continue but he had no timeline in place.
