Mentor-on-the-Lake Firefighters Squelch Apartment Fire

Two people are taken to the hospital as a safety precaution after apartment fire at Lake Vistas

Mentor-on-the-Lake firefighters doused a bedroom fire Friday evening in an apartment building on Andrews Road.

Firefighters were called at 7 p.m. to Lake Vistas, an apartment building specifically for those with physical-mobility disabilities.

Firefighters said it wasn't necessary to evacuate the 20-unit building. Instead, they were able to squelch the fire in 20 minutes, before it spread beyond the bedroom where it started. However, the rest of the apartment did have heat and smoke damage, Mentor-on-the-Lake Fire Department Lt. Tim Brown said.

Firefighters took a man and woman who lived in the apartment complex to the hospital as a safety precaution, Brown said. They were not seriously hurt.

Brown said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it's thought to be accidental.
