A Mentor man is accused of fleeing a rollover crash that .

Michael Springer, 20, faces misdemeanor charges of fleeing the scene of a crash, obstructing official business and failing to control his vehicle.

Police say Springer lost control of his car near the intersection of Roselawn Drive and King Memorial Road. It went off the left side of the road, hit a split-rail fence and a tree before it flipped over and caught fire.

Springer and a passenger tried to run away from the crash. However, the passenger, who has not been charged with anything, decided against running away and talked to police, Mentor Police Sgt. Mike Majernik said.

Springer turned himself into police on Saturday.

Majernik told The News-Herald that Springer likely had been drinking that night but "there's no way to prove that."
