Mentor Man Accused Of Attacking Sister With Broken Plate

The man is also accused of hitting his girlfriend, resisting arrest

A Mentor man is accused of punching his girlfriend and then cutting his sister with a broken plate when she tried to intercede.

Jimmy Ward, 36, attacked his girlfriend in the early morning hours of Dec. 30, Mentor Police Lt. Tim Allen said. He had been drinking beforehand, witnesses told police.

Ward's sister tried to stop him. So he became even angrier, broke a plate over his head and used one of the shards to cut her neck, Allen said.

Ward also took away both his girlfriend and sister's phones when they tried to call police, Allen said.

Eventually, Ward ran away and the women called for help.

The firefighters treated the women's injuries while police looked for Ward.

K-9 Titan tracked Ward to where he was hiding, beneath a picnic table several yards away, Allen said.

Ward refused to come out from beneath the picnic table so Titan bit him on the arm. Then Ward turned himself in.

Ward was charged with felonious assault domestic violence, disrupting public services and resisting arrest. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Mentor Municipal Court.

I'm the sister in this article, and would just like to say how difficult this is. (to put it mildly) Not sure what else to say. .... Violence in any form is unacceptable..... But it hurts even more when it is someone close to you, that you trust, or especially family. I do pray for my brother, because deep down, I do love him, but I want him to get help and get better. There is no justification for violence. Some people never learn from their mistakes. They repeat history over and over, never changing nor learning from the past, so to expect different results is ludacris. I am not perfect, but I try to be a productive member of society. At a certain point, one has to decide to continue on the wrong path, or make a cognacent choice to get on the right path. I am a firm believer that everyone be held responsible for their own actions. At the end of the day, I will literally and figuratively be scarred for life. :(
