Mentor Firefighters Rescue Dog from Culvert Pipe

The dog was about 12 feet into the pipe and covered in water by the time firefighters got it to come out

A Pomeranian received the rescue it needed from the Mentor Fire Department and Lake Humane Society earlier this week.

The dog was stuck in a culvert pipe near Bellflower Park on Monday when firefighters responded a concerned resident's call. Fire Lt. Rob Gandee believes the animal spent most of the weekend about 12 feet into the pipe with water up to its upper legs. People tried various methods to get it out, including waving pork chops.

"We got him to come out of the hole, and then he took off," Gandee said. "He was like a bullet he moved so fast and then went and hid in the brush."
