Mentor Detectives Investigating Daytime Burglaries

Three daytime burglaries have been attempted in the last two weeks in the same part of Mentor

Mentor Police are investigating a trio of daytime burglaries that happened on or near Center Street in the last two weeks, Mentor Police Lt. Tom Powers.

The first occurred on Center Street, just south of Mentor Avenue. The second happed on Johnnycake Road, west of Center Street.

In both burglaries, someone entered an unlocked house during the day and only stole jewelry, Powers said.

A third burglary was attempted last week on Mentor Avenue near the intersection with Mary Lane. However, the thief (or thieves) were not able to get into the house, Powers said.

Because of the timing and proximity of the burglaries, Mentor detectives think they may be committed by the same person or group of people, Powers said.

Consequently, police are asking residents to call them if they see a suspicious person or people going door to door without a solicitor's permit.

Anyone with information on the burglaries or who sees a suspicious person in their neighborhood is encouraged to call the Mentor Police Department at 440-974-5760.

Additionally, police are asking that people remember to lock their doors and windows when they leave their homes.
