A man who caused a 14-foot U-Haul truck to flip on its side Thursday evening is accused of driving while intoxicated.

Corey McDonald, 21, of Concord Township, was driving west on Lake Shore Boulevard at about 9:30 p.m., Mentor Police Lt. Ken Zbiegien said.

According to the police report, first McDonald drove off the left side of the road and knocked down a mailbox in the 7500 block.

Then he drove on some of the tree lawns on the south side of the street. Finally, the truck fell on its side and slid another 30 feet before coming to a stop, Zbiegien said.

McDonald was not hurt during the crash. No one else was with him in the truck at the time and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

When police arrived, they suspected McDonald was impaired by either drugs or alcohol so they charged him with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, Zbiegien said.

McDonald has no previous drunken driving charges. He is scheduled to have his first court appearance today in Mentor Municipal Court.

The truck was rented by McDonald's girlfriend. Police do not know why the truck was rented.
