Man To Spend 90 Days In Jail For Menacing Mentor Business

An Eastlake man will spend three months in jail for menacing the .

Geno Battaia, 31, was Feb. 6 in .

Judge John Trebets sentenced him to 90 days in Lake County Jail. However, he was allowed to defer his jail stay until Aug. 6.

As part of his probation, Battaia was ordered to continue taking classes at Lakeland Community College and to not contact the Euclid Fish Company.

If Battaia violates his probation, he could face another 90 days in jail.

On Oct. 11, Battaia sent an email to Euclid Fish Company, his former employer, and threatened to spread harmful rumors about the business unless it gave him money, Mentor Police Capt. Ken Gunsch said .

He was initially charged with a felony count of extortion. However, he was allowed to plead guilty to a misdemeanor, instead.

Battaia has a criminal history. In 2007, he was convicted of assaulting two Willoughby police officers and sentenced to a year in prison.
