Man Pleads Guilty To Armed Robbery, Carrying A Concealed Weapon

A man who went on the lam from Mentor Police back in February recently pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated robbery and carrying a concealed weapon in Lake County Court of Common Pleas.

Tyrell Hurd, 23, of Painesville, is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 23 by Judge Vincent Culotta.

Hurd was already out on bond for an aggravated robbery in Painesville when Mentor Police arrested him on Feb. 13.

He was in a car that was pulled over by police for having expired plates, police said. When officers searched his car they found a loaded .38 handgun, Majernik said.

Hurd is not legally allowed to have a handgun for two reasons.

One, as previously mentioned, he was out on bond.

Two, Hurd is already a convicted felon. In 2007, he was convicted of a theft that also involved a gun. He was sentenced to four years in prison but released after two.

Hurd was released on bond after his February arrest but then went on the lam when he was supposed to appear later that month in Mentor Municipal Court.

Coincidentally, he was found by U.S. Marshals in July in Aurora, Co, a city that drew the nation's attention after a heavily armed man entered a movie theater 11 days ago and opened fire.

Hurd had no involvement in the shooting.
