Man Facing His Sixth Drunk Driving Conviction

Mentor Police arrested a man who is facing his sixth drunken driving conviction early Friday morning.

An officer spotted Anthony Heron, 38, of Mentor-on-the-Lake, driving his Jeep Renegade shortly after midnight on Mentor Avenue near the intersection with Plaza Boulevard.

Heron was drifting over the median so an officer pulled him over, Mentor Police Lt. Tim Allen said.

Police say Heron failed field sobriety tests and then opted out of using the breathalyzer, so the officer charged him with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, Allen said.

Police also confiscated Heron's Renegade.

Heron has five previous convictions for drunken driving. The most recent occurred in 2008 in .

Acting Judge Paul Miller arraigned Heron Friday in Mentor court. He set his bond at $20,000, which was posted.

Heron's next court date is scheduled for April 26.
