Man Accused of Pulling Gun at Trailer Park

Witnesses told police that man pulled a handgun after a fistfight with his neighbor

A Mentor man is accused of pointing a gun at his neighbor after they fought Sunday evening.

James McNulty, 65, was walking his dog around the Mentor Mobile Green trailer park when he saw a neighbor he disliked, Mentor Police Lt. Tom Powers said.

"At one time, they were friends but they had a falling out years ago," Power said.

The two men got into a shouting match. Then the other man – who is close to the same age as McNulty, Powers said – came down from his porch and challenged McNulty to a fight.

The two traded punches until the other man started to walk away so he could call the police, Powers said.

McNulty shouted for the man to look at him and, when he did, McNulty was aiming a gun at him, witnesses told police.

The man ran inside his house and called police.

Officers arrived and found McNulty in his trailer. Though he told police he didn't aim a gun at his neighbor, officers found a loaded handgun in his home, Powers said.

Police charged him with two misdemeanor counts of aggravated menacing and carrying a concealed weapon.

If convicted of either charge, he could face up to six months in Lake County Jail.
