Man Accused Of Drunken Driving, Selling Marijuana

Police found the man sleeping in his car at a gas station

A man who Mentor Police found asleep at a gas station Thursday night is accused of driving while drunk and trafficking marijuana.

People called police to the gas station because the man was "not leaving and acting strange," Mentor Police Lt. Ken Zbiegien said.

When officers arrived, they saw 31-year-old Renardo Lewis asleep in his car with the front door open while parked in front of a gas pump, Zbiegien said.

The car had a flat tire and matched the description of a car that had hit some construction barrels on Route 2 earlier that night, Zbiegien said.

The officer could see two bags of marijuana by Lewis -- one on the side of the driver's door, the other on the concrete by the car.

The policeman woke Lewis. He failed field sobriety tests and refused to take a breathalyzer test, Zbiegien said.

Lewis has been convicted of drunken driving three times in the last six years.

Police found a third bag of marijuana beneath the floorboard of the car. All the bags were the same weight so police think they were packaged for sale, Zbiegien said.

Officers also confiscated a bundle of dollar bills they found in Lewis's pants, Zbiegien said.

Lewis was charged felony counts of marijuana trafficking and drunken driving. Additionally, Lewis faces counts of driving without a license and marijuana possession.

He's scheduled to be arraigned today in .
