Couple Caught on Tape Taking Wallet from Mentor Restaurant

Mentor Police found two people caught on tape taking a wallet at Buffalo Wild Wings.

In barely six hours, fans of the Mentor Police Department's Facebook page helped identify a couple caught on video taking a wallet from a Mentor business.

The department posted a surveillance video from Buffalo Wild Wings of two people who were later identified as Robert Searcy and Stephanie Light. The 15-second video shows Light picking up the wallet from the counter, having a brief discussion about it with Searcy, who then places it in his pocket before the two walk away. No workers are seen in the short video.

"Facebook's really been a great thing for us," Mentor Police Lt. Tom Powers said. "We got their IDs pretty quickly."

Somebody from Buffalo Wild Wings also called the department stating they recognized the two.

Searcy was arrested and charged with fifth-degree felony theft and Light on fifth degree complicity to theft. Powers said the charges are felonies because credit cards were present in the wallet.

"There's cameras everywhere these days and they're so affordable and easy to operate for businesses," Powers said, "so that's good for us."

Powers said a lost wallet should never be taken outside of the business one finds it in.

"The obvious thing to do would be to tell a manager that someone left a wallet there," Powers said. "The manager should know to call police."
