Another Rape Suspect Arraigned In Mentor

Nicholas Sutton is accused of molesting a woman after she fell asleep

A Mentor man is accused of raping an 18-year-old woman on April 15 after a house party.

Nicholas Sutton, 21, was a house guest at a party on Cedarwood Drive, Mentor Police Lt. Tom Powers said.

At about 4 a.m., the alleged victim had been sleeping next to her boyfriend (who is not Sutton) when she woke up and saw Sutton molesting her, Powers said.

The woman shouted at Sutton and he ran away, Powers said.

Two days later, the victim called police and reported the incident.

After police spent about a week tracking down and interviewing witnesses, Sutton turned himself in and let police interview him with his attorney present.

Sutton was charged with rape and arraigned Tuesday in .

Judge John Trebets set Sutton's bond at $250,000, which was not posted. Sutton's next court hearing is scheduled for May 7.

This is the second consecutive day in which a rape suspect was arraigned in Mentor. On Monday, .

Yeckley, 21, of Willowick is suspected of bringing a 13-year-old girl to a motel in Mentor on April 21, plying her with alcohol and then having sex with her, Powers said.

Yeckley's and Sutton's cases are unrelated.
