Your UNDEFEATED Mentor High Boys Varsity Soccer Team play for the Regional Title today (Saturday, November 2nd) against Massillon Jackson 12:00 noon at the Rocky River High School stadium.
If the name Massillon Jackson seems familiar (or even infamous) to you - you are right. In 2007 the Mentor Boys Soccer Team beat Massillon Jackson in the Regional Final to advance to the State Semi-Final. But before that game could be played an "anonymous" caller suggested to the OHSAA that there were ineligible players on the Mentor team. Legal battles ensued and the courts decided the caller was right and Mentor had to forfeit their win against Massillon. It was a dark day for Mentor soccer and because of a tiny difference of interpretation of the rules the team was punished harshly. Massillon went on to lose the State Championship game.
Today at high noon (haha) - the 2013 Mentor High School Boys Varsity Soccer team will represent not only their school, fans, friends and family - but they will stand up for the 2007 team that was treated so cruel and unfair.
