Tournament Honoring Deceased Mentor Firefighter Benefits Area Organizations

Sixty softball teams of firefighters, business employees and more participated in the 2013 Matt Henk Softball Tournament.

Sixty softball teams of firefighters from across the country and employees of various businesses gathered in Mentor this past weekend to honor a deceased Mentor firefighter.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Mentor softball field played host to participants in the Matt Henk Softball Tournament. The teams participated in events for three days and supported organizations like Mentor Youth Hockey, Lake Health/University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center and the Ireland Cancer Center in the process.

Henk died of colon cancer in 2009.

Columbus X, the team of firefighters from the state's capital, won the tournament's public safety division. The team with employees from B & R Tile, Pepco and Louisville Slugger won the open division.
