"The Skull and Skeleton in Art" artist reception and Day of the Day celebration

With skull art and motif now in the mainstream, this popular, macabre art genre comes to Lakeland Community College in a new exhibit, “ The Skull and Skeleton in Art III: Folk Art to Pop Culture, curated by Mary Urbas,” and runs through November 8 in the Gallery at Lakeland, building D, first floor.

An artist’s reception will be held on Thursday, October 24, from 7 – 9 p.m.

A Day of the Dead celebration will also be held from 6 – 9 p.m. Skull and skeleton-themed items such as T-shirts, jewelry, and folk art items will be on sale at the Boneyard Market from 6 – 9 p.m. that same evening.

Guests are encouraged to dress in Halloween costume as the evening event also coincides with Lakeland’s Halloween party in the Athletics and Fitness Center.

Sixty-four artists from Northeast Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Illinoi, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and California, will exhibit works featuring skulls and/or skeletons. The exhibit includes 305 works in a variety of media including: oil/acrylic/encaustic painting; textiles/fiber; printmaking; drawing; photography; digital art; sculpture; glass; wood; ceramics and ceramic sculpture; mixed media; assemblage art and jewelry.

The exhibition and artist reception are free and open to the public.
