Introduction to Precious Metal Clay

Try your hand at working with Precious Metal Clay! PMC is made up of microscopic particles of silver suspended in an organic binder to create a pliable material with a consistency similar to modeling clay.  When PMC is fired to a high temperature, the organic binder burns away and the metal particles fuse, forming solid metal that can be sanded, soldered, oxidized, patinaed and polished like conventional metal.

In this fun introductory workshop, participants will learn the basics of working with metal clay.  Techniques will include rolling, texturing, cutting, shaping, finishing, firing and polishing to complete several pieces of jewelry – and depending on the size of your pieces, students may make a pendant and earrings or several pairs of earrings. This class is limited to eight students.  Tool kits will be available for use.
