Watch: Check Out This Awesome Holiday Display In Mentor

These decorations are definitely going to put you in a festive mood

The best part of Jennifer and John Schmiege's holiday display at 4967 Forest Road isn't the inflatable Winnie the Pooh or Thomas the Tank Engine.

It isn't the hundreds of feet of lights, the sign counting down to Christmas or the nativity scene. (OK, depending on your perspective, it may be the nativity scene.)

It isn't even the fact that lights are synced to the music on 98.7 FM.

The absolute awesomest part of this holiday spectacle is that the Schmieges' use it to collect donations for Make-A-Wish and Toys for Tots.

They provide their display, which they are always adding to, for free. However, if a person wants to donate to a good cause while they are there -- that's fine too.

The wonderland on Forest Road is just one of the many amazing holiday displays in Mentor. I asked for people's favorite holiday decorations in Mentor on our Facebook and Twitter pages, and people recommended:

  • the intersection of French and Lake Shore Boulevard
  • Melshore Drive
  • Ocean's Point in Whaler's Cove
  • the enormous lit tree at the end of Acacia Avenue
  • the Inland Shores Development
  • the Pinegate neighborhood
  • Collins Road.

Feel free to add your own suggestions in the comments section.

Also, I would be remiss if I didn't mention Patch's "Deck the House" competition.

The person with the best holiday decorations will get our grand prize, which is $500 toward your electrical bill and $100,000 donated to his or her local school district.
