Rabid Skunks, Rightsizing Schools & the Sabo Lawsuit: A Week In Review

1. This was a good week for business news in Mentor. it would be opening a new center in the city and it is expected to create up to 70 new jobs.

Also, the city seems to have a new tenant for the vacated dealership that used to house . The  plan to move in.

Don't worry. This won't create a new vacancy at Mentor Mitsubishi's current home. Instead, Mentor Kia, which shares a dealership with Mitsubishi, will stay at its present location and expand.

2.  – a man accused of abducting two boys and forcing them to drive him from Mentor to Cleveland – ended almost as soon as it began.

The prosecutor called for a mistrial after Woodley's attorney, Greg Gilson, said and then repeated incorrect allegations against the victims during his opening statement.

Instead of finishing a mistrial hearing and possibly restarting the trial with a new jury, to two counts of abduction. He now faces up to 10 years in prison.

3. Mentor Schools Superintendent Jacqueline Hoynes discussed the effect of dropping enrollment on the district's individual schools during a board meeting Tuesday.

She anticipated that would need to be cut from the district over the next four years to rightsize the staff.

She said she thinks the cuts could be done by attrition as opposed to layoffs.

4. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit  in a previous court decision that denied him immunity in a pending lawsuit from the widow of Richard Sabo.

This means Dian Sabo's lawsuit against Tkach could now proceed to trial.

The city of Mentor could also try to appeal the decision to the entire circuit court or the U.S. Supreme Court.

Sabo was shot by Tkach during a brief standoff Feb. 5, 2009.

5. A according to the Lake County General Health District.

This is the second rabid skunk found in the city since the beginning of the year.
