Mentor Parks Hosting Citywide Scavenger Hunt

People can win prizes following the clues on Mentor Parks' Facebook page and Twitter feed

The city of Mentor's Parks and Recreation Department will hold a city-wide scavenger hunt in which people can win prizes by following the Mentor Parks online.

Every day at 8 a.m., from May 18 to May 25, the city will post a new a clue on the Mentor Parks' Facebook page and Twitter feed.

Each clue will be based on a Beatles song and will lead people to a location in Mentor, Parks employee Jill Korsok said.

If people decipher the clue and go to the Mentor locale, they will receive a token and a second clue.

Korsok added that some of these locations will be businesses in Mentor and she hoped that people who participate in the scavenger hunt use it as an opportunity to check out stores in the city they may not have known about or visited before.

On the final day, the clue will lead people to a party with games and food in Mentor. And at the party -- which will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday May 25 -- is also when the city will give away its prizes.

The rewards will go to the people with the most tokens. The answers to the secondary clues will be used as tie breakers, Korsok said.

The prizes will include gifts from Mentor Parks and several local businesses, she said.

This the Parks department's first city-wide scavenger hunt.

"Almost all of the programs (Mentor Parks) does are kid-oriented or family-oriented," Korsok said. "We wanted to have something that adults -- maybe a young couple -- could do."
