Mentor High School, Mentor International & "Mentor:" A Week In Review

Catch the highlights from another busy week at Mentor Patch

1. This was a busy week -- even for Mentor.

A man wanted in armed robberies that happened in Mentor and Concord Township was in Huron County Thursday.

This was a crazy police chase. John Lane II seriously led police on a foot chase . (OK, it was a creek, but those aren't the lyrics to the song.)

By the time the chase was over, one of the deputies chasing Lane had a concussion and Lane had been tasered.

2. Both Mentor Schools Superintendent Jacqueline Hoynes and Principal William Wade posted messages online Wednesday,

The documentary, which is directed by Alix Lambert, is about bullying and teen suicide at Mentor High School.

Perhaps of even more importance, Mentor High students responded to the trailer.

Student Government President Sarah Perry , which quoted several of her classmates. She wrote:

Although this film may have been made with the good intentions of spreading awareness about the issue of bullying, it has left students upset and frustrated.

Instead of showing both sides of the story, this film focuses on the sensationalism created by only using lawyers and the parents of the bullying victims. It paints the students of Mentor High School as cold and heartless monsters, mercilessly preying on those with differences.

3. Mentor City Manager Kenneth Filipiak announced a new ambitious program for the city during his address.

The program, called , has two goals, Filipiak explained. First, it would try to attract foreign companies that are interested in the midwest United States to consider developing in Mentor.

More importantly, it would help Mentor manufacturers penetrate the international market.

4. One of Mentor's most visible vacant buildings will have a new tenant soon.

The Mentor Planning Commission to run a company warehouse and wholesaling operation at the former Dodge Clark building at 7272 Mentor Ave.
