It looks like Melt Bar & Grilled -- the sandwich shoppe that specializes in gourmet grilled cheese -- will be coming to Mentor.
Owner Matt Fish said he is hoping to open the Mentor Melt by October and join what he called the "thriving restaurant scene there."
Fish said both Mentor's location and the community's population density appealed to him.
"I know there are people from Mentor who already come to Melt," he said. "But there are also people who prefer to stay in the area. So this is going to open a whole new market for us."
Ron Traub, the city of Mentor's director of business and economic development, said Melt's opening brings with it "a sense of culinary arrival" for Mentor.
"Mr. Fish and Melt are hot numbers in the Greater Cleveland area and even nationally," he said. "To have them open a restaurant in Mentor is exciting."
"What Matt offers is unique in northeast Ohio and I think it will be well received in the community."
Melt has received national attention for its creative sandwiches and was featured on The Travel Channel's Man V. Food when its host, Adam Richman, devoured the 5-pound-plus Melt Challenge that combines 13 different cheeses on a single sandwich.
It also offers plenty of options for people who are hungry but not 5-pounds-of-cheese hungry.
The Godfather incorporates 3-cheese lasagna and garlic bread into a single sandwich. Parmageddon keeps it local with potato-and-cheese pierogis and fresh napa vodka kraut. The Dude Abides fits homemade meatballs and a mozzarella stick inside a grilled cheese sandwich.
The Westside Monte Cristo isn't too different from its namesake, except it uses two grilled cheese sandwiches as its slices of bread.
Melt has locations in Cleveland Heights, Lakewood and Independence. You can check out the full Melt menu here.
