Man Accused of Renting a Car and Not Returning It

Man turns himself into after a warrant was issued for his arrest more than a year ago

A Shaker Heights man is accused of renting a car from a Mentor business and not returning it.

Delvin Samuels, 37, rented a white 2009 Dodge Charger in July 2009 from . He was supposed to only have it for three months, but the Charger was not returned on time, police said.

Instead, the car was found parked at Hillcrest Hospital when Secret Service arrested Samuels from the hospital on an unrelated charge in October 2009, Mentor Police Lt. Ken Zbiegien said.

Samuels was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and issued a warrant for his arrest Nov. 12, 2009.

Samuels turned himself in Tuesday at Mentor Municipal Court. Judge John Trebets released him on a personal bond. Samuels' next court hearing is scheduled for Feb. 17.

Samuels said he did not know a warrant was issued for his arrest until he was stopped for a traffic ticket in Cleveland last week.

If Samuels is convicted of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, he could be sentenced to up to 18 months in prison.
