Improve Your Walleye Haul By Going To Gander Mountain/Library Talk

Gander Mountain will kick off its seminar series with a talk about the best practices for catching walleye

"We live in the walleye capital of the world," said Matt Buck, the head of hunting and fishing at .

"The fishing in Lake Erie is absolutely wonderful for everything, but especially walleye," Buck explained. "They are a lot of fun to catch and they're great to eat."

Buck wants fishers -- from amateurs to experts -- to get more out of living in the "capital" so he and Mitch Leppelmeier, a coworker at Gander Mountain, are heading a seminar on walleye fishing this 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the .

"We want everyone's experiences while hunting or fishing to be the best possible. We don't want people going out there and saying they couldn't find any fish," he said.

"There are fish everywhere if you know how to look and how to get them."

During their talk, Buck and Leppelmeier will discuss ideal lures, trolling technique, the best rods to use, how deep to lay the line, where to look for walleye in Lake Erie and so much more.

Buck promised that even seasoned Lake Erie fishermen could get something out of the talk.

"There's so many parts to walleye fishing, there's always something you can learn," he said.

This talk on walleye fishing is just the first in a for hunting and fishing enthusiasts. Throughout the summer, experts from Gander Mountain will talk about topics as diverse as urban hunting and bow fishing at the library.

All of the talks are free. However, the library asks that people register for the programs in advance.
