Where/When: , 7 p.m. today (for the Lake Catholic game;) Friday (for Mentor High's season opener)

Why Go: It's OK to be excited -- ecstatic even -- for the return of high school football.

Both Lake Catholic and Mentor had huge seasons last year, so fans are exceeded to see if the Cougars and Cardinals can top themselves and even win a state championship.

Lake Catholic begin their regular season tonight against Strongsville. Then the Cardinals kick off against Euclid tomorrow.

Where/When: , 9 a.m. Sunday

Why Go: Doc's Deepwood Run will return for its 15th year; and there's still time for bikers and sponsors to sign up and raise money for those with developmental disabilities.

In the last 14 years, the motorcycle run has raised about $400,000. The money helps those with developmental disabilities by paying for activities or equipment that improve their quality of life.

The 15th run will begin 9 a.m. Aug. 26 at . The prize drawings will be at 11 a.m. and the first bike will head out 30 minutes later

Pricing: Bikers can participate by buying a $10 ticket beforehand or $15 ticket the day of the run.

3. SUPPORT THE USA WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL TEAM

Where/When: Center Street overpass of Interstate 90, 12:45 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. Saturday

Why Go: The USA Men’s Wheelchair Basketball Team is passing through Mentor on their way to the 2012 London Paralympic Games.

We are looking for TEAM USA fans to cheer them on as they make their way west on I-90.

You can show your support by arriving on the Center Street overpass in Mentor between 12:45 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. on Saturday.

Bring your family and friends. Our goal is to line the bridge with as many people as we can; and to show our support we will all be waving USA flags. Signs and posters are encouraged as well.

Where/When: , 6 p.m. Monday

Why Go: Bring your pooch to the pool.

Dogs can enjoy a dip in the Civic Center Park pool this Monday. The animals must be vaccinated and licensed and leashed when not in the pool.

Owners must clean up after their pets. Dog toys are OK.
