Heroin, High School Sports & Last-Minute Campaigning: A Week In Review

1. Yes, we know the high school football playoffs kicked off yesterday. But football isn't the only sport in Mentor and there are plenty of other athletes in the city who deserve some spotlight.

Both the girls and won their respective district titles.

2. Mentor Police Sgt. Richard Slovenkay explained the heroin problem in the area perfectly when he said, ""A lot of the theft and other crimes in the city are driven by opiate addicts."

Simply put, opiate abuse is a problem -- not just in Northeast Ohio, but in Mentor.

Mentor Police made three arrests involving heroin this week. They who crashed into a pair of police cruisers when he tried to escape.

Also, two people with heroin addictions were , according to police. The catch: the two people are in a relationship together and both times the people and their infant in the car with them.

3. Mentor City Council .

That means all of the city's unions have new 3-year contracts before this Tuesday's vote on Issue 2.
