Hair 4 Heroes, Winter Hikes & Special Memorial Services: A Weekend Planner

1. HAIR 4 HEROES BENEFIT FOR NYPD OFFICERS

Where/When: Tryst Salon and Spa, 10 a.m., Sunday

Why Go: On Sunday, Tryst Salon and Spa will host a fundraising event with the Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association to raise money for New York Police officers in need.

Hurricane Sandy left more 1,500 NYPD officers without homes, clothes, cars, and belongings. These officers remained on duty protecting citizens as their homes were ravaged by the hurricane.

Tryst Salon will be offering 15 percent off all services Dec. 2 and donating all proceeds from services to the NYPD Officers.

There will also be raffles for gift cards from various businesses and services, product baskets and more. Call and book your appointment at 440-974-4001. If you are unable to attend this event, you may drop off or mail donations to Tryst Salon.

2. TREE OF REMEMBRANCE MEMORIAL SERVICE

Where/When: Brunner Sanden Dietrick Funeral Home, 1 p.m., Sunday

Why Go: Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center will host its 22nd annual Tree of Remembrance Memorial Service on the front lawn of its funeral home.

More than 500 names of loved ones lost since December 1 of the previous year are read during the ceremony. Each person served at Brunners is remembered on this day and their name is read, regardless if families attend the service or not.

Family members who attend can bring an ornament to hang on the tree and come forward when their loved one’s name is read. Once all names are read, the tree is lit and the service closes in song. Following the event, families are welcome to join the staff refreshments, coffee and hot chocolate.

3. WINTER HIKE AT MENTOR MARSH

Where/When: Mentor Marsh Nature Preserve, 2 p.m., Sunday

Why Go: The winter gives people a chance to appreciate the more subtle nuances of the Mentor Marsh's beauty.

Join a naturalist from the Cleveland Museum of Natural History for a monthy hike of the unique preserve. (Bring your kids and complete the family scavenger hunt.

4. HOLIDAY TRUNK SHOW

Where/When: 8827 Mentor Ave, Thursday through Saturday

Why Go: Flux Metal Arts is hosting a holiday trunk show with couture jeweler Michelle Pajak-Reynolds.

Michelle’s a Mentor native and her collections were featured on the runway at the prestigious New York Fashion Week but this is the first time all of Michelle’s collections are being presented in her hometown.

Michelle will be on hand to help guests select the ideal jewelry piece for their holiday events and gifts and share stories about the inspiration behind her creations. A sneak preview of her jewelry is available at www.michellepajakreynolds.com

5. BEHIND THE SCENES TOUR AT GARFIELD HISTORIC SITE

Where/When: James A. Garfield National Historic Site, 11 a.m., Saturday

Why Go: The "Behind the Scenes" tour includes a visit to the basement, servants quarters and third floor of the home, along with an inside look at the windmill and 1870’s barn—areas not visited during regular tours.

The tour is about 90 minutes and begins at the Visitor Center. Reservations are required. Participants must be 16 years or older.
