Great Lakes Mall To Kick Off This Year's Mall Walking Program

The second annual mall walker kickoff event will be January 25

Great Lakes Mall will kick off its 2013 mall walking program at a launch event from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Friday, January 25.

The second annual mall walker kickoff event will feature health screenings, a light breakfast, a speaker and a walk around the mall.

All registered mall walkers can pick up their official mall walker card, a membership card that also offers a year's worth of rewards.

The mall-walking program is sponsored by Cleveland Clinic’s Euclid Hospital, Hillcrest Hospital and the Willoughby Hills Family Health Center for the second consecutive year. They also offer registered walkers promotional gifts and contribute to the monthly program newsletter that has health news and information.

"It’s the season of New Year’s resolutions and the mall provides a safe and temperature-controlled place to exercise," said Renee Lanzara, the director of mall marketing and business development for Great Lakes Mall.

"The benefits of the program go beyond exercise. Our relationship with Cleveland Clinic allows us to offer free health screenings and educational opportunities to registered mall walkers."

Last year, Great Lakes Mall added mile marker signs throughout the concourses to help walkers track their distance, as well as healthy walking tips to reinforce fitness goals.

One lap around the mall, including all concourses, is one mile. Doors open at 9 a.m. every day for mall walkers.

Those interested in joining the mall walker program can register at the Great Lakes Mall launch event on January 25 or anytime at Great Lakes Mall’s Guest Services Booth located next to the play area in the Macy’s concourse.
