Kids should bring their own treat bag and, while they don't necessarily need to break out a costume to get candy, it's encouraged.

"Whether kids want to show off their new costume or take home some treats, Halloween Madness is lots of fun."

On a related note, the city of Mentor's trick-or-treating hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

To ensure a safe and fun Halloween for the trick-or-treaters in your life, follow these safety tips provided by the Centers for Disease Control:

  • Avoid trick-or-treating alone. Walk in groups or with a trusted adult.
  • Examine treats for choking hazards and tampering before eating them.
  • Swords, knives and similar costume accessories should be short, soft and flexible.
  • Be sure that costumes fit properly to avoid blocked vision, trips and falls.
  • Test costume make-up in small areas to check for irritation and remove before bedtime.
  • Carry a flashlight with you to help you see and to help others see you in the dark.
  • Walk on sidewalks whenever possible and do not run between houses
