Broadway, the Civil War & Family Fun: A Weekend Planner

Why Go: A pair of renowned theater entertainers are coming to Mentor to help raise money for the .

Among the night's performers are Ciarán Sheehan and Sarah Pfisterer, who have starred as the Phantom and Christine Daae, respectively, in more than 1,000 performances of "The Phantom of the Opera."

Heather Martin Bixler, a violinist from Wisconsin, and the Murphy Irish Dancers, who just placed fourth in a world dance competition hosted in Ireland, will also perform.

The performances will start at 7 p.m. Tickets for the fundraiser are $25 or $100 for the VIP experience, which includes a Sheehan autographed CD, backstage access and refreshments and appetizers following the show.

Only 100 VIP tickets will be sold. Proceeds will benefit United Way of Lake County.

Where/When: , Friday through Sunday

Why Go: About 100 Union, Confederate, and civilian reenactors will be on
site to demonstrate Civil War-era drill and ceremonies, weapons proficiency, battle tactics, camp life and more. And it will all occur outside of the home of President James A. Garfield, who was a Union major general during the Civil War.

The weekend will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday with a public symposium hosted and presented by the Northeast Ohio Civil War Round Table.

From 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, the encampment will be open to the public on the grounds of the Garfield site.

Reenactors from the 7th, 8th and 82nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry, as well as the 11th Misssissippi Volunteers and 7th Tennessee Dismounted Cavalry will be on hand to demonstrate Civil War drill and ceremonies, weapons, and camp life.

Why Go: Mentor High School Football Coach Steve Trivisonno is being recognized with an induction into .

The Captains began the Hall of Fame last year to honor longtime Northeast Ohio coaches of significant achievement.

As part of the honor, Trivisonno will throw out the first pitch of the Captains' game.

Where/When: , noon, Sunday

Why Go: This event features old-fashioned fun, games and entertainment for the whole family.

Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at one of the picnic tables or bring a blanket to sit on. Refreshments also will be available for purchase.

There will be pony rides, magic shows, strolling entertainment, animal shows, inflatables, music and more.

The event also will feature free guided tours of the manor house.

Where/When: Lake Metroparks Farmpark, Saturday and Sunday

Why Go: You can follow the creation of ice cream, from the cow to the bowl, this Saturday and Sunday at Lake Metroparks Farmpark in Kirtland.

Guests can visit the Factory of Frozen Fun where they will learn how milk becomes cream and then ice cream.

Visitors can even churn their own ice cream, learn about the dessert's history and enjoy a sundae.

Pricing: $6 for ages 12 to 59; $5 for ages 60 and over; $4 for ages 2 to 11; children younger than 2 are free.
