Cruisin' 50's Diner will be celebrating its one-year anniversary with an Elvis show this Friday

 will celebrate its first year in business with an Elvis serenade this Friday.

The King will sing live from 6 to 9 p.m., and servers will dress like they stepped right out of the film Grease.

If all of this happening in Mentor seems strange to you, you haven't been to the diner at 8807 Mentor Avenue – and maybe this weekend is prime time to go.

Its menu features 16 different half-pound burgers, such as the popular 57 Chevy Bel-Air Burger with mushrooms, onion, bacon and melted swiss ($8.49). Manager Valerie Schultz said each item is worth trying.

Entrees range from $8.99 to $13.99, including pastas, steaks and a special recipe meatloaf crafted by the diner's Greek owners, the Foradis family: two brothers, a sister and their respective husbands and wives from the area.

"Our food is made from scratch, so it's not corporate," Schultz said, "all the way down to the mashed potatoes and french fries made fresh every day, pretzels ground up for the breading, and onion rings we batter ourselves. It's very home-cooked food."

Breakfast can be enjoyed all day. For the big eaters, a four-egg omelette is the size of a football. A Little Rascals menu takes care of the smaller ones.

The decor emulates the diner's era with checkerboard floors and pink-and-blue booths that look like old-fashioned car seats.

And while the atmosphere is family friendly, with servers in costume and a jukebox always spinning, Cruisin' 50's Diner features wine and beer alongside its traditional shakes, malts and floats. A party room for up to 50 people attracts lots of car clubs and it's no wonder why.

Impersonators stop by once a month to entertain those lucky enough to snag a seat. Dates of their visits, as well as the menu, are listed on the diner's website and Facebook page.

Cruisin' 50's Diner is open Monday through Thursday and Sunday from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday until 10 p.m., with expanded hours in the spring and summer. Carry out and reservations for 10 or more are available at 440-255-1950.
