Behind The Scenes At The President's Home & Varsity Chalk Talk: A Weekend Planner

There's still plenty to do on this relatively quiet weekend

With Labor Day upon us, there are fewer than usual events happening this weekend -- ostensibly in an attempt to make us spend time with our families.

However, there are still some fun things going on in and around Mentor this weekend.


Where/When: Luke Easter Park -- 3090 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive -- in Cleveland, 10 a.m. Monday

Why Go: The event ostensibly celebrates the holiday. However, the big draw this year is that .

Where/When: , 11 a.m., Saturday

Why Go: The "Behind the Scenes" tour includes a visit to the basement, servants quarters and third floor of the home, along with an inside look at the windmill and 1870’s barn—areas not visited during regular tours.

The tour is about 90 minutes and begins at the Visitor Center. Reservations are required. Participants must be 16 years or older.

Where/When: Lake Catholic kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday in Brunswick; meanwhile, Mentor crosses state borders to play McDowell High School in Erie, PA

Why Go: Both and kicked off their football seasons with wins at home.

However, if you want to catch either the Cougars or Cardinals live this Friday, you're going to have to drive.

The Cougars will face off against Brunswick, who beat Padua 42-7 last week.

Meanwhile, Mentor will visit McDowell High School for the Trojans first game of the season.

Hi. Someone rightfully pointed out that the MHS boys soccer team also plays against Eastlake at 7 p.m. this Saturday.
