Around the Patch: Teacher Acquitted of Rape, Rescue Missions & Return of the Kent Juggler

1. A teacher acquitted of rape is returning to Lakewood Schools, .

Brian Biermann was accused, tried and acquitted of rape, sexual battery and kidnapping charges in March of 2010

Now, three years after the charges were leveled against him, Biermann is slated to return to teach seventh grade English at .

Parents objected to the decision, and Superintendent Jeff Patterson said the district did its due diligence investigating the matter. 

“Mr. Biermann has gone through three layers of examination regarding the case that was against him that stems back to October of 2008,” he said. “He was found not guilty in the court of law, and during two subsequent investigations – one by the Ohio Department of Education and one by the attorneys for the Lakewood City Schools – there was no evidence found against Mr. Biermann that would cause him to either lose his teaching license or his teaching position with the district.

“In fact, legally, the district is required to bring Mr. Biermann back to a teaching position.”

2. Just weeks after a  at Miller Road Park in Avon Lake, police and fire personnel were called to the east side of the Miller Road pier after several women thought they saw a man swimming, and not resurface.

“We got a call about 10:05 p.m.,”  Lt. Chris Huerner said. “There were ladies on the pier who saw what they thought was a male swimming and then they didn’t see him.”

An immediate search of the area was conducted from the shoreline. Police had not received any reports of a missing individual in the area.
