Around the Patch: History Detectives, Basketball Prospects & Teen Assaults

1. A Solon man's pike was featured on PBS's History Detectives Tuesday.

The weapon, which is owned by Gary Whewell, may have been used in John Brown's 1859 slave revolt and raid on the federal armory in Harper's Ferry. The show researches the pike and sees if it's authentic.

2. ESPN has ranked Malina Howard, a Twinsburg standout, as the in the country.

Howard, Twinsburg's senior All-American, has yet to announce her college of choice. For now, she is playing AAU summer basketball with the Sports City U team and fine-tuning her already impressive game for the coming high school season.

A key player for the Lady Tigers during their unbeaten season and a Division I state title last season, the 6-5 Howard averaged 21 points, nine rebounds and two blocks per game. She finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds in the state championship game as Twinsburg downed Kettering Fairmount for the school's first team state championship.

3. A 17-year-old boy is accused of assaulting and robbing a man as he and his wife left after having dinner at Anatolia Cafe in Cleveland Heights.

A hearing will be held today to see if the suspect will be charged as an adult.
