What is tooth sensitivity? Factors that lead to sensitive teeth and what can be done to eliminate tooth sensitivity.

What is it?

Many patients experience tooth sensitivity at some point. Tooth sensitivity can occur when the underlying dentin layer of the tooth is exposed in the oral cavity. The dentin layer of your teeth is made of thousands of tiny tubules leading to the nerve of the tooth. These dentinal tubules allow for the stimuli- for example the hot, cold, or sweet food- to reach the nerve of the tooth, causing the discomfort that you feel.

What can be done to eliminate tooth sensitivity?

*Maintain good oral hygiene

*Use a soft bristled toothbrush

*Use desensitizing toothpaste

*Use fluoridated tooth products

*Avoid tooth grinding

*See your dentist at regular intervals
