Video: Mentor Area Chamber of Commerce Commemorates 50 Years With a Time Capsule

Local businesses, schools and nonprofits put items into a capsule that will not be reopened for another 50 years

Mentor Area Chamber of Commerce celebrated its 50th anniversary by this morning at City Hall.

Several local businesses and nonprofits gave keepsakes to be placed in the capsule. Cornerstone IT made a booklet on modern technology;  and  gave photos of their schools; and  supplied a LeBron James bobblehead.

People who attended the ceremony were also able include predictions about what city of Mentor would be like in 2061, when the capsule is opened.

Randy Verdi, the president of the local chamber of commerce who initially suggested the time capsule, said he made a prediction.

"It's a strange one," Verdi said before the ceremony. "I predicted that by 2061, we'll be able to put embryos in men and have the male pregnancy."
