U.S. Rep. David Joyce Tours Euclid Fish Co. in Mentor

The congressman spoke about the importance of small businesses while visiting the 44-employee Euclid Fish Co. on Enterprise Drive.

Before heading back to Washington, U.S. Rep. David Joyce stopped in Mentor to tour a storied small, family business.

Joyce, R-OH, spent about an hour walking around Euclid Fish Co. and learning all about the processes and traditions of the business founded by John Camella in 1944 in Euclid. Now operated by third-generation owner John C. Young, the company came to Mentor in 1977. It employs 44 people and also has a building in Pittsburgh.

"We have large corporations, but it's small family businesses like this that really make our country go," Joyce said. "They're the backbone of our country."

The Mentor Area Chamber of Commerce and COSE (Council of Smaller Enterprises) hosted and organized Joyce's visit. He saw everything from salmon from Norway to scallops from the coast of Maine. He got a sense of the clam washing and prepping processes, too.

Young said the company sells millions of clams in the two-month or so clambake season.
